Overview

PicturePlus is the world’s first and only Palm OS JPEG image viewer that makes it possible to view and zoom in 100-Megapixel (10,000 by 10,000) JPEG images on a Palm OS device with only 300 KB of free memory required.  PicturePlus is ideal for the viewing the following images:

• Large digital photos captured using high end digital cameras
• Huge high-way, subway, bus, street maps
• Digital images created by high-resolution color scanners
• High quality artwork created by image editing software

Major Features of PicturePlus:

• Unique combination of high compression ratio of JPEG images and fast decoding algorithm allows fast viewing of highly compressed JPEG images, including huge maps and high quality digital camera images.



• Extremely low memory requirement – only requires 300 KB of memory to zoom a 100-Megapixel JPEG image to 800%.



• PicturePlus was fully optimized for Palm OS 5.x based devices such as Palm Tungsten/Treo/LifeDrive, and Sony Clie devices to achieve lightning fast display speed. The entire JPEG decoder engine was written in optimized ARM Native code so that a JPEG image of size 640 by 480 can be displayed in half a second on these devices.



• Standard compliant JPEG decoder implementation guarantees excellent image quality.



• Thumbnail view allows you to quickly browse through a large number of images.



• Support 4-bit grayscale, 8-bit color and 16-bit color output.



• Support Palm and Sony high resolution display. Support Palm Tungsten/LifeDrive and Sony dynamic input area and portrait and landscape display modes.



• Arbitrary ratio zoom support allow easy viewing of huge JPEG images.



• 360 degree drag and move.



• Beam pictures to other Palm devices.

"Unbelievable zoom in and out and flip through pictures fast ! This application is perfect. You can put a huge picture on there and zoom out untill its the size of you finger tip then zoom in close enough to read the smallest, smallest fine print. I put a 4 meg picture of the U.S. on there and zoomed out till I could see both oceans and then zoomed in so far that the K in Kansas took up the whole screen, then you can drag the screen to any spot on the picture you want. The best thing is that it allows you to flip through pictures as fast as you can push the button. when you first download the application, or when you add a new picture it takes a minute to read the picture but then after that its quick like lightning."

“I've been keeping an eye on this software since December 2002 when I upgraded from a Palm IIIc to the Tungsten T. In this time, the software has become faster, the bugs have been rapidly squished and the interface has been improving. The best feature is the support for HUGE jpeg files - you can point and drag within a massive image to scroll around inside it (tip - zoom in to 100% to appreciate this fully). This makes PicturePlus perfect for viewing maps, schematics and diagrams as well as photos. The interface is a little quirky - since it doesn't behave like most Palm apps - but you do get used to it. If the interface were to become a little more intuitive I would rate this 5 stars. It's already one of the better Palm Apps I've seen during the past few months and shows great potential for the future."
